WEBER GROUP

Mrs Franklin presided over a good attendance of members at the May meeting of the Weber Women' s Institute. The roll eall, which followed the singing of the Institute song was well responded to, it takhig the form of gifts for the Dannevirke branch of the Red Cross Society. The dainty and useful gifts were many and varied. The balance-sheet of the bazaar was very gratifying. The president expressedi her appreciation of work done by members, residents of the distriet and the hall and school committees, who had helped to make the bazaar the success it was General business was then diseussed, and the following decisions wer© made: That the sale of basket-ware in aid of the Blind Institute be postponed until early next year, when a garden party will be held at the home of Mrs C. Franklin; that a fancy dress dance be held in Weber during the first week in July, instead of the usual annual concert ; that each Institute member donate 1/- towards the King George V Memorial Fund. Mrs Franklin then reported on the Federation meetmg at Waipukurau, and urged members to take a more active interest in competitions at Federation meetings. Mrs Hall, who shortly leaves the distriet to reside in Wellington, was presented with a small gift, after which institute members sang "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." A dainty afternoon tea was then served by Mrs Crosse aud Miss M. Franklin. The competitions, whicli were botb well patrordsed, were a spoilge roll, a bowl or Vase of ckry santliemuin s , and were both Won by Mrs Myers. Mrs Franklin gave an interesting demonstration on pastry-making, demonstrating three methods. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Franklin for her lielpful demonstration.
