Dunedin-Port Chalmers Line

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Minister of Railways (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) announced to-night that the Government had decided to proceed with the duplication and straightening of the railway line between St. Leonard7s and Sawyer's Bay on the main line between Dunedin and Port Chalmers. The work will necessitate the penetration of the hill under Roseneath adjacent to Sawyer's Bay and as the esisting portion of the line between St. Leonard's and Sawyer's Bay will require to be relaid in approximately three years the Government considered the time opportune to proeeed with the formation necessary for the new alignment and duplication so that the completion of the new work will coincido with the. time when the esisting line will require to be relaid.
