Waipukurau High School Pupils Farewell Miss L. G. Hale

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. In honour of Miss L. ■ G. Hale, who ds leaving her position on the staff of the eecondary department of the Waipukurau District High School to tak« up an appointment at the Morrinsville High School, a social was field at tfie school on Friday evening, arranged by present and past pupils of tfie secondary department. It was well attended, a number of parents being also present. Daneing, interepersed wiitfi musical and otfier items, by pupils was followed by supper. Mr V. Parsons, fieadmaster, briefly mentioned tfie universal regret felt at Miss Hale's departure and spoke of tfie fiigh esteem in wfiicfi efie was field by tfie pupils. Miss Molly Leamy, senior prefect, made a presentation of a leather travelling-case on befialf of tfie present pupils. Miss Leamy assured Hale of the pupils' gratitude for h'er painstaking efforts, and expressed tfieir wish that sfie would find fiappiness and success in fier new spfiere. Miss F. Malkin, on befialf of tfie expupils, also expressed tfianks for Miss Hale 's kdndly treatment and tfie patience she had at all times displayed. She fianded Miss Hale a gold-mounted fountain pen. On rising to return tfianks, Miss Hale was greeted witfi "For Sfie's a Jolly Good Fellow" and rousing cfieers. Miss Hale assured fier present and past pupils tfiat tfie memories of her stay in Waipukurau would be of tfie fiappiest. Sfie ddd not need tfieir gifts to keep tfiem in remembrance, but sfie was most grateful for tfiem and for tfie tfioughts that had prompted tfiem. Tfie following items were presented during tfie evening: — Recitation, Sfiona Bell; : piauoforte solos, " Minuet" (Paderewski) and "Waltz" (Cfiopin), Nola Matlieson- tap dance, Laura Tfiorburn. ■
