New Plymouth Not Being Overlooked STATE hOUSING SCHEME
IBy Telefirraph— 1
WELLINGTON, Last Night "Nonsense. The accusation 'spoils to the victors ' sounds like the wails of the vjanquished," declared Mr J~. A. Lee, member in charge of the Housing Department, in commenting on the critieism by Mr D. F. 0. Saxton, president of the New Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, that the towns represented by Opposition members had been overlooked. The statement, eontinued Mr Lfee, was completely without foundation. For some considerable period negotiations for the purchase of land had been going on in New Plymouth, and surely even the Chjamber of Commerce president would agree that the progress of such negotiations could not be published day by day. As evidence of the fact that i New Plymouth had not been neglected a letter was sent by him to its member, Mr S- JG- Smith, on Aprii 12, aequainting him of the negotiations and informing him that a certain transaction was approaching completion. "To show how the 'spoils' are coming to the victors," concluded Mr Lee, "I instance Auckland, where every house so far contracted for is being erected in the electorate of, not a Labour member,- but Mr W. P. Endean (Opposition)."
