Celebrations at Waipawa

WAIPAWA, Last Night. Preparations for Wednesday's celebrations in Waipawa are proceeding apace, and if the weather is favourable che day should live long in the memory of the younger generation. The business people have entered whole-heartedly mto the general scheme of decoratious, and tliroughout the past week have been busy brightening up their windows, the patriotic colours, red, white and blue, iurnishing the foundation on which attractive designs have been built. This morning the members of the Borough Council 's outside staffmade a start with the main scheme of outdoor decorations which, when couipleted, will presently brighten the appearance of tne town considerably. The first of the Coronation functions will be the Coronation ball to be held in the Municipal Theatre to-morrow, Tuesday. The decorations in tha theatre will be in keepihg with the great event, and the programine will inciude many novelties making it a real carnival night. Mnsie for the dancing will be provided by Mr. Les Henry 's orchestra of six instruments, and bridge will be provided for non-dancers. In accordance with the expressed wish 6f the Government, a speeial function has been arranged for the schbol children, who will assemble at the school at 9 a.m. This applies to pupils of the Convent *&chool as well as those of the State schOoL Short addresses on the significance of the ocdasion will be delivered by Mr. R, C. Adlam (headmaster) and Mr. C. H. Critchley (Education Board representative), following which two cedar trees-' will be planted ac the entrance to the new school ground in Harker street, the chairman and the secretary, Messrs. W. E. Yates and S. W. Strang, officiating at this function. A similar ceremony will take place at the Convent School grounds where an oak tree presented by Mr. C, G, E. Harker will be planted. " The afternoon will conuhence with a procession through the town, followed by a variety sports meeting on Coronation Park. The procession will assemble in Victoria street at 1 p.m., and it is hoped tlat all who have exhibits will be punctual so that judging may be ootnpleted in time for the procession to move off at 1.30 p.m. The procession headed by the Municipal Band willproceed to Coronation Park via High street and Ruataniwha street, where addresses will be delivered by the Mayor, Mr. C. G. E. Harker, and Mr. H. M. Christie, M.P. Immediately following tlie official function a start will be made with the sports programme, which consists chiefly of children 's events. An attractive programme of horse events has also been arranged.
