Wairoa Vital Statistics. The following are tho vital statistics for the Wairoa district for April:— Births, 17, of whom 11 were Maoris, compared with 8 in April of 1936. Deaths, 1, a Maori, compared with two, one European and one Maori, compared with April last year. Two inarriage eertificates were issued against. none for the same period last year. Getting Ready. Borough workmen in Wairoa have" been engaged for several days string'ing the coloured lights to be used in connection with Wairoa 's Coronatiou celebrations. It is also contemplated t(» light a huge bonfire on one of the liills near the town. A party of Maoris is also rehearsing hakas to be given in the Square after the parade. . Wairoa Dairy Factory. In connection with the work of new construction at the Wairoa dairy factory to be entered upon soon in connection with Mr. O. Glengarry 's contract, the manager 's residence has been shifted back from its present position. The new boiler to be installed has also arrived. Te Kura Rainfall. Mr A. E. Black, Te Kura, . repnrts the rainfall for April as .76 inches, compared with 2.32 inches for April last year. The totaF rainfall for this year to April 30 is 4.95 inches, while for the same period last y6ar 15.76 inches wesr© recorded. On Monday morning tho Waipawa Borough Council etaff will commence with the • decoration of the town, a uniform scheme having been ' decided upon. Wednesday 's procession will leave the Memoriai Clock Tower at 1.30 p.m. and will be headed by the Municipai Band. The first of the local Coronation festivities will tako place on Tuesday ovoning when the ball organised by tho bachelors and spinsters will be held in the Municipai Theatro. The decorations will he on an eTahorate scale and variety will he the keynote of the programnxe. Makotuku Socfal Evenfng. On Saturday last Mr |nd Mrs F. G. Luscombe, Makotuku, entertained the Young People' s Bible 'Class at a social evening in their home,^ about 30 members and friends attending. It is hoped to hold similar social gatherings each month during the winter. Games and competitions were much enjoyed, as was a sumptuoua supper. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr and Mrs Luscombe for their hospitality. Mothers' Union. The monthly meeting of the Makotuku Mothers* Union was held in the Anglican Church on Tuesday afternoon. The attendance was fair. The vicar, Eev. S. B. H- Corbin, took the service and gave an inspiring address on Faith. Later an adjournment was made to the vestry for business, after which, at the request of one of the members, Mr Corbin described his visit to the centre of the healingj mission during his recent visit to England. Great interest is being taken in the revival of spiritual healing in conjunc,/jn with medieal means, or by itself m answer to the prayer of faith, and the speaker gave a most interesting accounb of what he had been able to learn about this subject, which was listened to with great interest- A vote of thanks to Mr Corbin was -carried unaniniously. An Enterprising School. The Te Uri School Committee has arranged to present each of the school children with a medal commemorating the" Coronation. Members of the Te Uri School Committee take a very real interest in the welfare of the children. A number of tlxese are being taken to Ormondville, a distance of nearly 20 miles each way, by individual members of the committee, in their own cars, so that the children may have the advantage * of treatment at the school dental clinic there/ This is only one of the many instances in wnich tho members of this committee go out of their way to do what they consider to be their duty. Dance at Takapau The young people of Takapau district, under the auspices of the Young ltevellers' Club, held an enjoyable dance in the Takapau Hall on Thursday night. Mr W. Te Tau eupplied music for daticing. The supper-room was decorated tastefully in Coronation colours. The supper arrangements were attended to by a ladies' committee. Mr L. McDonald was M.C. Takapau Golf Club. A committee meeting of the Takapau Golf Club was held on Wednesday night, Major MacDonald presiding. Pifteen new meiubers were admitted and two resignations received. The committee decided to support the appeal of the Golf Assocration on behalf of funds for tlie King George V Memoriai health camp. A competition will be held in Support of the fund. A three-day tournament is to be held in July and a small Committee was set up to draw up the programme. The financial statement showed a profit of nearly £40.
