VALEDICTORY

Mr. J. List Members of the legal frateraity In Hastings gathered at the Hastings Courthouse yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr J. List, who after being a .member of the Hastings Court staff for the paist 14 years, has been transferred to Opotiki. Mr E. J. W. Hallett expressed regret at the departure of Mr List and mentioned that during his long service in Hastings h had proved a very efficient officer. He had always been very willing to lend assistance to the legal profeasion and was a real "mxne of infonaation," for he always took a keen and intelligent interest in his work. It was a^mitted that it was a great asset to have a man like the elerk of the Court, Mr. W. M. Will, as an associate, and no doubt Mr. List had benefitted through that association. Mr. Hallett congratlxlated Mr. List on his promotion and wished him and his family every suceess and happiness in the future. On behalf of the legal fraternity he presented Mr. List with a travelling rug as a token of the esteem in whieh he was held and also in recognition of the service he had given to members of the Bar. ^ Mehssre. W. Selwyn Averill and W. E. Bate also spoke endorsing Mr. Hallett 's remarks and Mr. List briefly expressed his thanps.
