INSPECTOR'S REPORT
Erom a report submitted in June, 1877, by William Colenso, as Inspector of Sehools, the following intoresting icforma^on is selected: — HASTINGS -MIXED SCHPOL. Masfer, E. W. O. McLeod. On Eoll: Bqjs 'l8, Girls 11, Total 29. This is a new; school, liaving been epened only last year. The scholars are all advaucir.g in learning, and seem a diligent, orderly lot., ... I am much pleased with this scho'ol. Their teacher is able, zealous and painstaking; one who seems to have the advance and welfaro of his scholars really at heart. The school, howevgr, has J'allcn olf in number during the year, through sc-vcral of the bigger boys Ieaving (at too carlv an age) * to cnter on the lteavier duties oi lifo. HAVELOCK MIXEI) SCHOOL. " ~ Mastef, Mr E. Bissoll, who liaa a female assistant. On Eoll: Boys 41. Girls 28, Total 64. Thlg sehool, under its present mastcr, has largely increased in number and is ngain fiourisliing. Tlte scholars are
again making good improvement in all ihe branches of learning taughln-^ particularly in Arithmetic, Geography, and Grammar. The schoolhouse has lately been enlarged, which is much needed. Tho master is oxperienced, able and zealous — apparently devoted to his work. This is a highly satisfactory scliool. A printed copy of this report is iu the hands of Mr Percy George, Hastings.
