MR. THOMAS E. CROSSE
Born ' in ' Porangahau in 1855, Mr Crosse bas a personal knowledge of the history of Hawke's Bay since very early days. Forty-five years ago he took" up residence at his estate, "Woodlands," St» George's road, Hastings. For more than 50 years he has taken part in the public life. of the district. He has been a member of the Hawke's Bay, Patangata, and Waipawa County Councils, and f oi; a long period has been chairman of the Hawke's Bay Rabhit BoardHe is. also chairman of the - Hawke's Bay Power Board. In.the years when Mr C. A. Fitzroy was Mayor of Hastings, 1894 to 1899, Mr Crosse was a member of the Hastings Borough Council. He also at-times served on the Clive Rivers Board and the Napier High School Board of Governors. • ' His knowledge of the Maoris and the early pioneers have been the subject of several interesting addresses delivered in his own whimsical style with a lively freshness of inemoi'v. As a schoolboy in Napier he heard the shots fired at the Battle of Omarunui.
