The Court was eay yesterday with a motley assemblage of offenders and ofiended. The three youths whoee playful escapades_were fully depioted last week. are to he birched this morning by Mr Miller and his znen. A case which caused aome fun was that in which a land-owner and onion-grower sued a respectable citizen because the latter's boy would not apologise for some imaginary grievance. The boy had remarked as complainant drove past the school: How like he is to his dogs. The offended one thereupon set his dogs upon the boys and stone-throwing follovred . . 1891. We are sorry to hear that the Napier Band has only a poor chance at the contest at - Dunedin.- A private telegram states that they are "certain to be last."— 1890. Hastings, presented an animated appearance this evening. "All sorts and conditions of men," imany of ■ them accompanied by - their? female life-sweeteners turning out to welcome Captain Russell on hia return home. As the 8 o'clock train rolled into the station the band struck up "Rule Brittannia" and on Captain and Mrs. Russell alighting they were greeted with hearty cheerB. — 1888. Our Hastings musical folk have received their brass-band instruments from Napier, and are now practising hard under the able tuition of M. Al. de la Roche. As there are already several in the band who are no novices, we may soon hope to hear sweet music discoursed by our band in public.— Jan. 17, 1886.
