Jubilee Message from ! Mr. Morse (To tlie Mayor of Hastings). On behalf of tlie citizens of Napier I desire to extend 16 tlie people of Hastings and yourself 'tkeir eongratulations and good wiskes upon the occasion of the 50th birthday of -your town. Your eommunity has well merited a halt by the wayside, for the journey down the past halfc, * century has not aiways been easy. ' Yet your citizens have ■ shown a measure.of resourcefulness and energy in overeoming their ohstacleS*that cannot but dcmand the admiration of everyone in the Dominion. * Because the birthday party of Hastings is t cf be held in eonjunetion with the Coronation celehrations, to he observed by the people of Napier as well, the occasion is ' fitting, I thihk, for an expression onee more of the goodwill existing between the two eonimunities. y Dhring the reign of five monarchs our two towns havs groivn and prospered together, sharing fortune and misfortune alike, and the Coronation celehrations this month repre- ' / sent,the passing of another milestone along the road- of good-fellowship* The peoples of Hastings and Napier hav* . much in common in the realms of business and recreation, for which reason my citizens and I will share with you* . * s eommunity the happiness which will he yours at -your jubilee and Coronation functions. , ' In conclusion, I desire to congratulate your citizens ; ;. npon the resourcefulness and energy shown in their endeavour to celebrate in a fitting and loyal manner both their own anniversary and the coronation of our new King and Queen.
