BRILLIANT DECORATIONS AT AERO CLUB BALL
Large Crowf. Attend Waipukurau Event
An event of the season was the brilliant Central Hawko's Bay Aero Olub ball, which was beld in the Municipal Theatre, Waipukurau, last evening, dancers being present from many parts of Hawke's Bay and from further afield. The decorations wero very beautiful, the Goronation colours, red, white and blue, being blended with the Aero Club colours, blue and gold. The decorativo seheme began at the doorway. Masses of native fern decqrated the stairway, and the foyer was bright with strings of redj white and blue pennants. "Jn the dance hall the walls were covered with eimilar pennants, and the front of the dress fcircle was covered witli the Union Jack, with smaller flags oii either side. From the central lights was suspended a big hoop of bracken, large blue and gold paper poppies and btniches of gaily-coloured balloohs. Eopes of similar decorations coming from the central hoop were fastened td each corner 6f the hall. In the midst of all this beauty ' was suspended a baby Moth plane, which Mad been kindly loaned by the Shell Company. Les. HenTy's orchestra played a splendid programme of dance musie from the stage, which was backed with the Union Jack and the Aero Club crest, which was place.d on a large square of royal blue silk. The front of the stage was banked with blue hydrangeas and red geraniums, autumn foliage and nuxnerous small flags, and the sides of the stage were fillbd in with autumn ' Berries, greenery and hydrangeas, while overhead floated clusters of balloona and flags.The ladies respOnsible for the Iavisn decorations were; — Mesdames Brian Boys, F.' Hewitt, F. de Btacpoole, F. Mc'William, J. A. Swinburn; Misae'a A. Wilder, Mary Wall, J. Ormond L. Parsons, Bobs Harker, Hargaret Pattison ahd Susie Whita. In the supper-room a tempting supper was set out on long tables, which were covered with white linen clbths and decorated with boWls of bronze and re.d Qhrysanthemums, pink and red berries and autumn foliage. Jfesdames W. J. Gray, J. Paton, O. Giblin, B. P. Wilder, J. W. Harding, 0. A. Parmiter, and Perkins, were responsible for the supper arrangements. Mrs Brian Boys, a$- organiser, and the two youthful sdcretaries, Migses A. Wilder and Mary Wall, assisted by other helpers, are all deserving of much eredxt for the excellent arrangements of the fimction, which was a brilliant success in every way. Prior to the ball, many large dinner parties were held, both ixx Waipukurau and Waipawa. Mrs C. Giblin, black noedlerun lace, liaving a tucked vestee in pale pink georgette fihished with a diamanto buck'le. Mrs F. Hewitt, blaek chiffon velvet gowh, with white relief on the corsage. Miss A. Wilder, frained gown in elear green satin, with big pink roses on back and front waistiine. Miss" Mary Wall, picture frock in coronatioh "red taffeta, haviug brilliants eiasp oh each' side of the neekline. Miss Bobs Harker, smartly fashioned frocK in Iime green faffeta with red roses on the sqliare cut neekline. Mis§ Susie White, Corohation purple suede crepe, having'a square cut neekline, and trained skirt. MiSS June Hewitt, black stiitened net, worn with a red spray and red shoeg. Miss Molly Whelch, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. E. Welch, was the only debutant. She was wearing a simply fashioned- gown of white silk lace, with a big pink rosg 0& the corsage and she carried a pink feather fan. Mrs F. de Btacpoole, black; taffeta having tiny fi'illa at back o| the skirt, worn with silver shqes. Mrs J. W. Harding, white crepe de chejie, patterned in Chinese colomiags and a saxe blue rose on corsage. Mrs J. Paton, blac]j; and gold threaded finely-ribbed silk with a flat bow on back waistiine. Mrs W. J. Gray, du}l blne cotelle frock, worn with a gold lhme tailored jacket. Mrs 0. 3t. Watson, rose pink tinsel safih, the ruched corsage finished with a'blg pinlr 'floral spray." Mrs*J. "Hunter/ black crepe threaded with black beads, worn with a shbulder spray of red and pink roses. Mrs J. CFJteilly, coronation red leaf patterned lace over black satin and a black velvet belt. Mrs B. Grovensor, wearing eycleman taffeta with a tailored 'floral coat. Mrs P. F. Wai!, hapdsome gown in black brOcade, embossed in silver and red roses, fashioned with a square cut neekline. Mrs Forbes McHavdy, blue and silver threaded crepe with cuthway corsage, and a black corsage spray." Mrs H. Dean, blue georgette worn with a matching frilted cape. Mrs Pat Barker, pale green taffeta with off-shoulder ruched frills and very full skirt. Mrs A. S. Goodvvin, smartly fashioned gown in heavy black lace. Mrs Bcrt Dalby, ttiscaji rcd taffeta, having shorf "pqffcd sleeves. " Miss Batty Holmes, palest pink ring velvet, flowered in bluo and rose pink, with deep cowl at back.
Mrs E. Groome wore a gown of gold and brown borcade, patterned in autumn design and having draped sleeves. Mrs H. Finch, parchment satin, the draped cape effect lined with red. iVIrs Sime (Christchurch), tomato red and silver cloque with cmall gold buttons at back, and gold spray. Mrs Bevan "Williams, blaek net over satin, with a pink rose on corsage and a plaited silver girdle. Mrs D. Plummer, pale gold and silver tree bark crepe, worn with a matching coatee. Mrs J. A. McLean, smartly fashioned gown in black tree bark crepe. "Mrs A. Bathbone, parma violet net, having a fiill narrow frilled skirt. Mrs F. C. Daniels, black chiffon velvet, relieved with silver. Mrs j. P. Tod, mulberry satin, worn with a smart matehirig coa,tee. Mrs I. W. N. Maekie, trained gown in " black satin, xelieved with a pink "corsage spray. Mrs T. Seton Norris, white ninqn patterned in clusters of blue and red flowers, and a red sash. Mrs Bill Harris, paiest blue and silver striped silk, with a pleat ed f rill on hemline. Mrs H. Parsons, deep brown lacquered satin having a halter neekline and pink rose on corsage. Mrs W. B. Fisher, black taffeta with diamante clasp on neekline and at waist. Mrs J. Lowry, mauve and silver lame gown worn with a blue fox fur. Mrs J. S. Barrett, flame lace with a deep tucked flounee of flame net. Mrs J. Kendall, flame crepe threaded in gold and gold lame coatee. Mrs Hewitt (Palmerston North), , lavender and gold threaded cotelle. Mrs Bettington, lime green and silver lame, worn with a white, fox fur. Mrs Eric Todd, trained gown iu parchment |atin and net. Mrs G. M. Winlove, white georgette owered in Chinese colouringe, having wide draped sleeves. Mrs F. E. McWilliam, white fr,ench crepe de' chene* flowered in red and 1 blue. Mrs S. A. Eobinson, black satin and black and gold lace coatee. Mrs L. Harker, beige leaf patterned lace over purple satin and purple lilies on corsage. Mrs D. Holden, beautiful mid-Vic-torian gown in lavender and gpld brocade, ihe full skirt being rucked. Mrs G. Edgcombe, liberty patterned frock in crepe de chine. Mrs G. Mourad, black taffeta with a corsage posy. of violets. Mrs H. Swinburn (Hawera), black ring velvet, pink corsage spray. Mts M. Pattison, becoming gown in silver tissue, the skirt trained. Mrs Ted Harvey (Auckland), parchment satin the split back finished with tiny satin ' buttons. Mrs Bathgate (Hastings), black crepe du chine, appliqued in pink rOses, black iiet and cape and pink brocaded shoes. Miss J. Ormond, blue and silver brocade, with foids of silver lame in the corsage. Miss B." Parsons, white stifiened net with folds of satin in the skirt, and a blue and pink" posy on back of waistiine. Miss B. Miss Molly Jamieson, paiest mauve ninon having very full sleeves. Miss L. Hanzard, red satin Chinese ensemble. Miss C. .Tefferd, dull blue georgette worn with a blue velvet coatee. Miss Mary" Nation, ciel blue georgette with elongated frills on skirt. Miss Joan White, pink taffeta worn with a blue velvet coatee. Eiddiford (Featherston), dance frock in pale pinh crepe. Miss Shirley Clay, black taffeta fashioned with a vCry full 6kirt. Miss H. Hunter, almond green moire taffeta, having. short puffed sleeves. Miss' Allhuson, white chiffon flowered in pastel shades. Miss M. Glenny, black taffeta fashioned with a high shirred neekline. Miss M. Grant (Napier), pale blue satin frock worn with a gold lame coat. Miss J. Pattison, senr., green cloque, the deep folded corsage lined with eyclamen. Miss Eay Hewitt (Wellington), gold lace over flame satin and a flaring satin tailored coat. Miss Lorna Edgecombe, old gold ninon, fashioned with a folded corsage. Miss T. Jensen, tuscan red taffeta gqwn. Miss Edna Wall, gold lame frock. big pfnk rose qn corsage.
