Mrs. Mary McLernon

' i A former resident of Napier, Mrs Mary McLernon, passed away on Wednesday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs H. L. Primrose, of Gisborne. Deceased was a widely-known and very highly-respected figure in Napier during her long residence in that town. Mrs McLernon was the wife of Mr Samuel Mciernon, who was engaged in the jewellery business in Napier for a period of 35 years, and who, although not serving on any local bodies, maintained an active interest in the progress and welfare of the town over a large number of years. His business becaxne McClurg's Ltd., in 1919, when Mr McLernon retired from business. His death oceurred about 12 years ago. Mrs McLernon was noted for her valuable and untiring social work during her period of residence, in Napier. A.though her efforts at all times were made quietly aud unostentatiously, she proved herself a stalwart and unflagging worker in connection with organisations in the town which were associated with social welfare. She was also connected closely with the work of the church, being a parishioner of St. John's C'athedral for many years. Mrs McLernon leaves two sons, Mr HarJ'y McLernon, of Gisornbe, and Mr Neville McLernon, who is farming on the East Coa,st, and two daughters, Mrs H. L. Piimrose, of Gisborne, and Mrs Gillies, of Hamilton. One sea, Lieutenant Leslie McLernon, was killed on Gallipoli. The funeral was to leave St. John's Cburcli, Napier, at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon for ihe cemetery at Park
