The Nazis have now secured ihe necessary two-thirds majority enabling th'em to alter the constitution of the city into any form of State, thqugh it cannot alter the status of Danzig in reiation to foreign Powers which is guaranfeed under a statute registered with the League of Nations. Danzig, formerly a city of Germany, is now, with the surrounding territory. a free city under the League of Nations. Tlie territory of Danzig was set up by the Treaty of Ver?ajlles in 1920, and treaties with Poland r§gulate ils status. 'ft is governed by a high commissioner appointed by tfie League of Nations, a presidqut and a senate, with an assembly pf 73 members electcd for four years, Danzig hae been part I of Germany sinqq 1793,
