Prime Ewes Advance Up To 2/- a Head STORTFORD SELLING Bright selling ruled for fat sheep at Stortford Lodge yesterday when heavy prime ewes showed an advance up to 2/- a head. An exceptional line, well woolled and on account of Mr. Evan Davis, of Puketapu, topped the market at the splendid value of 27/9. The wethers nenned were chiefly of medium to heavy sorts, making to 28/6, which was below the top price in the store pons for an outstanding highcountry draft. Ewes predominated in the yarding, which was larger than last week owing to the double market, Quality was rather better than that at late saies and all sorts met with keen bidding. Prices were secured as under for selected entries; — On account of King Bros., Te Pokue, a line of well-woolled "Rornney lambs, in good medium. order. 'brnuedit 24/2. On account of Mr. Evan Davis, of Puketapu, an exceptional pen of outstanding, heavy, prime, well-woolled ewes topped the market at 27/9. On account of the same vendor, an entry of lighter ewes sold at 25/4. Also on account of Mr. Davis, a line of medium to heavy wethers, carrying a good slipe, brought 2S/6. On account of Mr. T. H. Lowry, 20 medium to heavy prime ewes, carrying a good slipe, made 23/6 On account of the same vendor z run in of 72 rather lighter ewes in similar order brought 22/3. A line of 96 medium prime wethers brought 27/6. A bid of 26/3 was offered for a pen of taedium-grown prime two-tooth ewes. An entry of 177 small to_ meaium grown Romney ewe lambs, in hardy order and sound, was passed at 24/6. On account of R. J. Heays, Mangahururu, Tutira, J 246 very wellgrown heavy wethers, early shorn and in fat condition, ready to hang up as prime finished, s « ted at 28/- to bring 29/1. Down from Apley Station, 195 fiveyear ewes, fair to good mouthed and running with Southdown Tams since February 1, an early lambing proposition, brought 16/-. An entry of 190 small grown two and four-tooth wethers, in light condition, was passed at the good bid °f 23/7. On account of Mr L. M. Pattullo, Newstead, 101 well-woolled four-tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams since February 9, sold at 26/7. On account of Mr F. L- Gordon, Clifton Station 200 well-framed soundmouthed five-year ewes running with Southdown ram since early in March brought 26/7- „ These well-bred ©wes were wellwoolled and in splendid breeding condition. ^ In from Petane, 59 fairly-grown, early-shorn wethers in forward order sold at 24/-. A line of 98 Kereru-bred woolly Romney wether lambs, in medium order, were passed at 15/9. A .draft of 349 late-shorn Romney wether lambs, rather small grown, were passed at 13/6.
