Health of Hastings Good "The health of th© borough remains in a scund position, yith the exceptioa of the recent outbreak of iirfantile paralysis," stated Mr, C- Carrell, Building and Health Inspector, in his annual report to the Hastings Borough Corncil. , "There has also been a considerable reduction in the number of complaints received due ^ to a. great extent to the regular rubbish collection," he added. Duringj the past year 39 cases of infectious diseases were reported, this being six in excess of the previous year. The individual totals of the cases reported were as follow: — Scarlet rever 6, diphtheria 1 and 5 suspects, erysipelas 6, tuberculosis 9, sepsis 1 suspect, ophthalmia neonatorum 1, meningitis 1 suspect, poliomiyelitis 8 and 1 suspect. visits for health reasons as well as part of his duties as building inspector. Altogether 61 complaints were received and 49 notices served to remedy nuisances. During the year £497 13/6 was paid in licence fees as under: — Ninety nine food premises, £51 19/6, 12 eating houses, £11 10/-, 25 milk vendors £6 5/-, 28 hairdressers £14, 13 lodging and tenement houses £7 15/-, 74 dangerous goods £204 10/-, 16 publio buildings £72 7/-, 6 billiard rooms £43 1/-, 3 sale yards £6 6/-, 3 hide and .skin stores £15, 101 smoke tests £25 5/-, 29 drainlayers £14 10/-, 18 plumbers, nil, 18 hoardings £16, 8 neon 6igns £5, 3 inspections of old timbers £4 5/-.
