ASHLEY CLINTON INSTITUTE'S BIRIHDAY

The monthly and fifth birthday of the Ashley Clinton Women's Institute, wa's presided over by the president, Mrs Derry, with a good attendance o£ members. The meeting opened with the institute song and aspirations. Mrs Derry welcomed visitors and also received a record attendance of members from Takapau, Waipawa, Norsewood, Tikokino, Waipukurau, Ongaonga and Otawhao Institutes, Members entertained visitors with a part song, a tableau of "The Old Woman in the Sboe," and one of "Mother McCree." Mrs C. Dampney and Miss J. Dampney sang two duets and a eolo. , CompetitiOns were for "observation* tray," won by Mrs'Gray, "funniest hat parado" won by Mrs Britton, and "the jumbled letters of hidden town in New Zealand" was won by Mrs C. Olsen, Takapau. A delicious afternoon: tea was then served with a beautiful birthday cake mad© by Mrs N. Olsen, and iced by Mrs Hanna, who were given musical honours. A member of each institute present fcben spoke a few, Words of greeting, and Mrs Derry suitably responded-
