Hastings Borough Activities A general all-round increase in the various licences issued' by the Traffic Department of the Hastings' Borough Oduncil, together with an increase of neartv £350 in iees, is noted in the annttal report presented by the inspector. Mr D. Mann, who reeorda the fact that for the very favourable position disclosed by the report on the work. performed by the department, the credit is mainly due to his predecessor, Inspector Crawford. The total fees collected duning the year amounted * to £4=636 11/4, as against £4286 18/5 the previous year. Details of the number of licenses and pormits issued are given as follow: —

The department carried out 344 tests of applicants for drivers ' licenses durhig the year, as against 251 the previous year. The failings amounted to 24 and 10 respectively. Prosecutions totalled 95 last yeai eompared with 152 the previouB year. ()i last year's cases 23 concerned cycling at pight without lights, 35 of failure to hold a driver 's license, and 12 for dangerous speed. The iines totalled £115 15/- and the costs £40 12/-.
