NO RATE INCREASE
Hawke's Bay Rivers Board £2438 CREDIT BALANCE There will be no increase in the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board's rates this year. A remark to this effect was made at to-day's meeting by the chairman, Mr C. Lassen, when the statement of accounts. for the year ended March 31 was before the board. A credit balance of £2438 was shown, with- £1774 included in the assets as outstanding rates. "There should be a reduction this year in view of our position," said Mr W, A. Jarvis. •"No. We can't manage that," replied the chairman. "We have got te try to stabilise our rates so that they bring in £9,000 annually. I think we should keep to that." "We can do with sonie of it at Pukahu. We have got to make up a lot of leeway," said Mr Ri E. Talbot. "One flat can use up a lot of our year's incoine," pointed out Mr L. E. Harris, "Pukahu has always been rather backward, but we are coming in on this credit balance," added Mr Talbot. Members considered that the board's finances were in a very satisfactorv position-
