SHOOTING SEASON

"Bags" Not Up To Expectations Anticipations of exceptionally good shooting for the opening of the season on Saturday were not fully realised, according to reports available to-day. It would seem that very few sportsmen sepured their limit bags. "There were plenty of birds about before tbe opening of the season and they could not have just disappeared, but certainly on Saturday there were not as many about as expected," said one enthusiast. "As far as I could ascertain, it was only in swans tbat ihe limit was reached." Tlm north-westerly wind and the ab* sence of rain are the main reasons attributed to the poqr shooting results. Though there were not many birds about, it seems that most of the sports men secured some "bags," and there were scores of birds dispatched from Hastings this morning by the mail train to various parts of the North Island.
