APRIL A DRY MONTH

Seven Frosts Recorded Another very dry period was esperienced in Hastings last month, there being nearly two inches less rain than during April of last year. The tatai for the four months of this year is almost ten inches less than the corresponding period tweive months ago, the spell of dry weather being unusualiy prolonged. In his monthly report, compiled for the Herald-Tribune, Mr. H. Nelson Fowler, Government observer at Hastings, states that rain fell on seven days last month as follows: — April 3rd., .28in.; 6th. .09in.; 17th., .03in.; 20th. .03in.; 22nd. .03in.; 24th. .18in.; 30th., .02in.; total, .66in. In April of last year 2.60 inches of rain fell on 13 days. The total rain to date this year is 4.64 inches, as against 14.51 inches last year. Cotamenting on the temperatures, the report states that the bighest maximUra in the screen was 81.6 degrees and ihe lowest 26.6 degrees, the lowest on the grass was 19 degrees, the mean minimum in the screen being 44.4 degrees and on the grasa 38.4 degrees. There were seven frosts experienced I last month, the heaviest being 11 de- ■ grees. I The prevailing winds were north-north-east on seven days, south on 12 days and south-west on 10. days.
