Th© territorial Co'uncil ha© protested to Ottawa and demands a plebiscite on th© annexation oi the Yukon by British Columbia., "Such annexation is a violation of th© democratie rights of our citiizens," they declare. A recent cable announced that the Yukon territory had been acquired by British Columbia,. subject to' the approval of th© legislatur© of that province. Th© Yukon, a territory of 207,000 square miles, lying between. British Columbia and th© ArctiC Ocean, with Alaska botmding it on th© west, has been gOverned by a gold Commissioner and a territorial council of three from its capital at Dawson. The Yukon becain© famous when gold was discovered in large quantities in 1896. and in th© followifia years * rush of miners to the Klondike district hfought a temporary population of 30,000 where there are ©nly 4000 to-dayy
