DECORATIVE SCHEME
Good Response to Collective Display 80 PER CENT. MEET APPEAL The subscriptions to the general Coronation decorative scheme proposed for Hastings have come to hand sufficiently to enable the Hastings and District ProgrCss League, which has promoted the movement, to proceed with the scheme. Well over 80 per cent. of the retailers have responded to the appeal for subscriptions,' thus indicating their readiness to fall into line in the matter of having a comprehensive and uniform scheme of decoration in the main business areas rather than a collection of individual displays that wou'd not be so effective when grouped. The committee in charge of the work is particularly gratified with this response, and^it is hoped that the remainder of the retailers will sanction their contributions within the next few days. It should be noted that' while it is now possible to proceed with the scheme, nevertheless its full meai'sure of s'uccess will only be enjoyed if there is a 100 per cant. co-operation fr f i the retailers. Unless this is forthcoming it will probably be necessary somewhat to modify the proposed scheme, thus detracting from the full effect degired. The committee is already at work marking out the places where the masts and banners are to be placed, and arrangements have been made for the erection of these. early next weekSpecial care has been taken in the selection of the type of decorations so that use can be made of them. in the future. The committee has arranged that after Coronation Week the decorations and standards will be stored away carefully.
