PALMERSTON N., Last Night. In the Magistrate's Court, before Justices, Amy Louisa Graham, a married woman residing with her husband at Rangiotu, was charged that on February 22 last, with intent to iujure, she attempted to * cause caustic soda to be taken by an infant, Joyce Elizabeth Masott. Mrs Mason, mother of the ehild, gave evidence that she and her husband lived next to the Grahams. On Februaiy 22 witness, her husband and the baby and Mr Graham went to the Woodville races. Witness left some milk in the baby's measure, whieh was standing in a dish of water in a bath covered with muslin. She took the key to the house with her. AcCufeed saw the party leave. Some of the same milk was given to the baby at the races, and it euffered no ill-effects. On the retum from the races witness went to prepare the baby's milk, and on removing the muslin found that th« milk had a frothy head, A sample was handed to the police . later. On two previous ocearions "witness had noticed similar oecurfCnces in the milk. Witness said that there had been unpleasant incidqnts between her and accused. The acting-Government Analyst said that there was .4 per cent. caustic soda in the milk sample handed to thepolice. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sOntence. Bail was rcfu^ed.
