Reports on Year's Activities in Waipukurau

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. At the annual meeting of fhe Waipukurau Fire Board, Mr W. G. Bryce presided over Messrs J. A. Chambers (Superintendent of the Fjre Brigade), I. W. N. Mackie (Mayor), A. Sinclair, W. E. Watson and H. B. Smart (Town Clerk).. Mr W. G. Bryce was reelected chairman for the ensuing year. The follcwing report was submitted by the chairman:— The insurance companies' returns of premiums . received within the Waipukurau Fire District for the year ending December 31, 1935, totalled £2657 13/4. Returns were received from 40 companies, and the levy represented 6.916 per cent of the total premiums received. The estimates of expenditure for the year were *duly submitted to and approved by the Ministedi of lnternal Affairs, in coinp.iance with the Fire Brigades' Act. The total estimates, £443 10/3, were contributed as fcllows : Credit balance, £43 10/3; New Zealand Government, £40; Waipukurau Bor-r ough Council, £183 16/- ; insurance companies, £183 16/-; total £451 2/3. Owing to the reductiqns previously made in the Government subsidy beang restored during the year an additional sum of £7 12/- was received from the Treasu'ry. Statements of receipts and payments and of income and expenditure show that there has been no unusual expenditupe during the year, and it is satisfactory to report that funds available on March 31 to liquidate the loan of £500 amount to £462 13/1. The loan matures on August 1, 1937. The property has been well maintained, whilst the fire fighting appliances l^ave been kept at the highest possible efficiency. The board takes this opportunity of expressing its appreciation of tho work of the officers and firemen of the brigade during the year, and to the Press for publicity given to board mattcrs generaHy. Supcriritendent's Report The Superintendent of the Fire Brigade (Mr J. A. Chambers) submitted the following report: — During the year tiie brigade received live alarm calls, noaie of which were oi a serious nature. The value of tiie buiiding on tire was £30; insurance on buiiding of fire, £20; loss to insurance companies, £2 15/-; loss of contents not covered by insurance, £2. The brigade was represented at the New Zealand demonstrations held at Nelson and perforrued very creditably being in the sixth place for the aggregate points. Fireman Watson resigned during the year on account of iiliiealth and A. Hastie has been appointed in his slead. The brigade celef iiratctl its t wejify-fiftli jubilee on Jnnunry 25. The plant. is iu good ordor and the musters of the brigade ara well attended. The roll is at present made up of two officers and 15 firemen.
