Subscribers' Annual Meeting

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. The annual general meeting of subscribers to tho Waipukurau Municipal Libfary was held in the Borough Council Chambers last night. The Mayor, Mr L W. N. Mackie, presided over a small attendance. The annual report was as follows : — Your committee has met monthly during the pasi year, tbe attendances of members being as follow : — 'Mrs W. Chambers 11, Mrs P. Eadie 11, Miss Tonkin 8, Mr G. Ellison 11, Mr G. Gideon 6, Mr M. A. McRae 11, Mr D. W. Neild 12. The librarian, Miss Craven, has also attended all meetings of the committee, and we are greatly indebted to her for her interest and assistance. In the selection of new books, the committee has endeavoured to cater for the tastes of all classes of subscribers. and, with that en din view, has paid particular attention to books entered in the suggestion hook. New' books added to the shelves during the year totalled 297, as compared with 268 i" the previous year. Subscribers numbered 176, as against 172 for the previous year, and subscriptions amounted to £168 17/-, as compared with £168 17/-. We have to thank the Borough Council for increasing ii« appropriation for purcbase of hook* and paper's from £100 to £125 during the year under review, and also for some renovations and improvements to the library and reaidng xoom, Mr Mackie said the fact that there were so few subscribers present showeri that they were satisfied with the library; if they were not, they woula have to come to the meeting to make complaints. Te following ccmmittee was elected for the ensuing year : — Mesdames P. Edie, A. O. Williams; Messrs D. W. Neild, M. A. McRae, G. Ellison and H. Lunn.
