INJURIES TO RUGBY PLAYERS
Referees Secure Rulings from Union ROUGH TACTICS Matters aft'ecting the jurisdiction of Rugby matcbes by referees were discussed with the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union by Mr W. Forrest last evening. Rulings were made by the committee regarding ininor injuries, encroaciiment on the field of play and rough tactics. The question had been fully discussed by his association, said Mr Forrest, in regard to mrnor injuries, The position was that a referee might allow three minutes, but the referees requested that the players be removed to the sidefine, sp that they would not cause unneoessary suffering to the uijured player, In iegard to coaches and. supporters encroacfiing on the field, the referees were faced with the position of orderlng them off. This was unpleasant tor the referee, and he wished the clubs to be iniformed tliat outsiders would not be tolerated. Discretion would be used in all cases, and if the injury necessitated treatment on the spot, the timo necessary jvould be granted. "There is a vast difference between a good hard game and rough tactics," continued Mr Forrest in referring to certain cautions administered last Saturday, four of them coming from one game in Napier. While he did not wish to create tlie impression that the play in Napier was very rough, it was the intention of tho referees to keep in check any tendency towards roughness.
