W. New, recently on a visit to Gisborne, was eager to buy the Hunting Song filly Pennycomequick, offering 800 guineas for her. Failing in this he offered 700 guineas for ihe unraced Hunting Song two-year-old Mendelssohn, but this was also deeliued by J. W. Nixon, who owns both. * * • Irish Fiddle, who won the Electric Stakes at Timaru on Saturday, is a two-year-old half-sister to Conpertpitch. She commenced racing at Riccarton at Easter, running third in the Russley Handicap and in the Autumn Nursery. She won nicely on Saturday and a good future is predicted for her next season. Irish Fiddle is by Day Comet from High Note, by Masterpiece from Sopra (dam of Reonui and Execution) by Ampelion from Trebelli II., dam of Autopay. • • • Last Saturday 's Timaru Cup winner Silver Sight was got by Silvcrado from Onsighfc, by Winkie — Ayo Ready, by All Red — H'ermosa/ by St. Leger — Lady Evelya, by Perkin Warbcck — Pulchra,

Cylinder, who won the New Zealand Derby, Great Northern Champagne Stakes, Stead Gold Cup, Wanganui Guineas, and North Island Challonge Stakes. • • • Housemaster, who won the Lone Pine Novice Handicap at the Australian Jockey Club's Anzac meeting on Monday after winning a division of the Maiden Stakes at Roseberry last weekis a full-brother to Headmistress ' and Headmaster, all three being owned by a 1905 All Black, Mr. W. S. Glenn of Wanganui. Headmistress was an unlucky mare, and had to be destroyed as the result of an accident. Housemaster who is by Chief Ruler — Filette, beat - a big field of novice performers and added further to the recnarkable record aehieved by New Zealand-bred horses in Australian this season. • # . '# When, as noted abovo, Housemaster won at the Rosebery (Sydney ) meeting last week he started a red-hot odds-on favourite, bo that there was no chance o foue of J. T. Jamieson's betting coups beiug brQught off. It was as second favourite that another from N.Z., Odilon, a three-year-old filly by Iliad — Oddity, won the second divisiou of the same race, another odds-on favourite failing to secure a place.
