DECORATIVE EXHIBITS AT HASTINGS FLOWER SHOW
The Hastings Assembly Hall presented a very gay picture yesterday afternoon at the Horticultural Society's Chr} santhemum Show- Besides a most beautiful display of chrysantliemunis, a good number of entries in the decorative classes were m.uch admirod, all being colourful and artistic exhioitsThe central display in tho hall was a stand arranged by inembers of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild with bowls and vaSes of scariet oak, cotoneaster berries and many autumn llowers besides beautiiully-made posies and sprays and numtuous novelty exhibifcs. I'hes© were arranged on a tieied stand and formed an elfective centre-piecc which called forth much praise irpm tbose who visited tho sliow. The section for decorated tablcs .attracted several entries, and iirst place was won by Mrs M. Vaughan, wnose table was decorated with crystal bowls of pink earnations, Jersey lilies, rosebuds, zinnias, phlox and antirrhinums with touches of mauve irises. miniature chrysanthemums and stalice aud inaidenhair i'ern. Second place was awarded to Mrs W. Harvey, who had arranged a brown crystal bowl and tiny vases with gold and iiame nasturtiums with small chrysanthemums and fern. jVirs Kirkpatrick was awarded hrst place for her mantelpiece decorated with brass bowls of blue and green hydrangeas, lemon chrysanthemums and scariet oak foliage, A mirror background was made by Mrs W. Harvey tor her second prize mantelpiece decorated with brown bowls of yellow and bronze- chrysanthemums, aud smaller chrysanthemums were arranged .in the dainty candlestick vase. Mrs Harve3''s mantelpiece in pink and white shades was awarded third place. Baskets of flowers arranged for ©ffect were also admired, especially Mr D. Prosser's first prize basket of marigolds, Mexican sunflowers, gjallardia and maple foliage. Mrs M, Vaughan won second prize for a basket in llame shades with dalilias, gerberas, chrysanthemums and foliage. Miss I-Lovell-Smith's basket in mixed ahades was placed third. The baskets of chrysanthemums were j all artistically arranged, and the prizewinners were:— Mrs K. G. Wilson 1, Mrs J. O. Tosswill 2, Mrs W. Harvey 3. For the same exhibit arranged in bowls prizes were won by Mrs Innes Gampbell 1, Mrs R. G. Wilson 2, Mrs M. Vaughan 3. Miss Mary Mossman won first place for her bowl in pinky-mauve shades with chrysahthemums, hoath, pojyanthus, roses and fern. Mrs Iiines Campbell was second with a golden sbaded bowl and Mrs W*. Harvey third with a bowl of deep red gaillardias. The section for a decorated layer bowl attracted many entries, and Mrs Hedley Harvey' s bowl of flame cactus, begjonias. pom pom dahlias, gerberas and fern was placed first. Mr H- Harvey was second and third with a bowl of mottled cannas, dahlias, nasturtiums and foliage and one in shades of pink with chrysanthemums, dahlias, heath and nerines. Good entries were received in the children' s classes for buttonholes, posies, shoulder sprays, and decorated bowls and vases and artistic exhibits were shown by the Misses M. Gampbell, M. Epps, P. Tlborne, Fair weather and L. Younge
