HASTINGS FLOWER SHOW

Record Display of Blooms BIG TASK FOR JUDGES ' e It is easily the finest display of blooms we have ever had here," said an official of the Hastings Horticultural Society early this afternoon when approached before the annual cliysanthemum show in. the .Asseinbly Hall was formally opened. The Assembly Hall undouhtedly presonts a wondprful and picturesque scene, thc display of autumn tints and the gorgeous blooms being® most attractive and etremely colourful. Such has been the response to the society 's appeal for support this year that record entries were reeeived, ancl for the first -time in the history of the society over 50Q blooms will be on view. In view of this greatly increased number of entries, it was realised that the judge appointed was confrontcd with an alnjost impossible task of eoinpleting his work before the show opened, and conseuently this morning it was arranged that he should have two assistants who would attend to the noviee and junior seetions. Trade and special exhibits also play an important part in the general display, and here again the society Lus r'eason to be gratified with the response to its appeal. All that now remain; to make the 1937 show the greatest succesS is for the attendanee to be up to expectations, and judging from the crowd that assembled for the opening ceremony it would seem that this would be the case.-
