Increased Patronage During Past Year REPORT OF MATRON An increased patronage and a surplus on the year 's workings are features of the annual report of the matron of the Hastings .Women 's Eest, Miss K. Hagenson, to be presented at the next meeting of • the . Borough Council. ' The expend'iture for the year amounted to £246 10/6, including salaries amounting to £212 2/6. This oxceeds the previous year by; £15 1*6/3 ■- owing to new arrangements- being made to comply with the shorter . working hours per week. ' Cash ' re'ceipts and attendances slightly - exceed the previous year 's figures, the receipts being £216 • 1/1, as against £215 1/8, and the .attenaanees at the Women 's Rest were 49,593 and 40,647 respectively. • The matron rejported that the restrietions imposed through the epidemie of infantile paralysis affected the work oi the Eest to a certain extent, there • not being the usual number of children. Last year" the numBer of patrons served with r'efreshments totalled 6103. "The screening-off of half of the lcng corridor was the only improvement carried out . during the year. This has given another cosy corner to serve lunch giris on winter days," says the report. . . "We, in common 'With most public buildings, have petty thaeving to contend with. Towels. and soap disappear so often that* lately. we have made. a charge of Id for use of- these artieles. "I would Tespectfully' ask that when the Civic Square c0m.es under the consideration of the Borough Council, that some attention be given to* the need for a little privacy dn connection with the living rooms at the Eest. At present quite a lot of foot traffic goes on 'round the building till all hours of the night. "Miss Stowe relinquished her duties as assistant. on March 6, 1937, after over seven years of valued and faithful servdee. Miss Helen Curd was appointed to replaee Miss Stowe. . "Once again we thank Mrs .Taylor, Longlands, for her weeldy supply of beautiful flowers. These flpwers have been brought regularly- to decorate our rooms for 14 years. From Mrs Chaplin, Mrs Eichardson, Miss K. Stubbs, and Miss Todhunter we have for severn! years reeeived consecutive numbers of six different ladies' magazines for the reading rooin. We are always grateful to the Plunket Society and nurses for their happy co-operation in our work. "
