Thousands are fleeing from their hbmes and industry is paralysed by the floods, which now extend to six Westem Ontario cities. £ix thousand people are homeles and the loss aittounts to 5,000,000 dollars. A train en route to Montreal from Chicago was derailed by a wash*out at Woodstock, Ontario, killing the engineer and fireman. Dr. MacDonald, health officer, was drowned when the flood waters swept his motor ofl? a bridge en route to the train wreck. Galen and floods lashed Virginia, caUSing six deaths and huge damage to property and crops. FredericksbUrg is in darkness after the sWollen Eappahannock flooded the power plant. The flood Waters began a slow rCcession at Johnstown, Cumberland, and the danger is believed to be past unless there is more rain.The Fittsburgh menace has increased and the city now expects 36 to 38 feet of water during the day. The Potomac is rising at WasMngton and the water is lapping the seawall of Che Lincoln memorial and there is a foot of water round the famous cherry trees.
