"I have aiready received a certain amount by way or donations as the rCsult of the general appeal, and I am confident that the people of Hastings wdll respoid with their usual generosity. "The Coronation Bali, however, is an additional means by which the fund can be subscribed to. I have been asked by the Minister of Internal Affairs to call together representatives of the various organasations aud local bodies in the borough with a view to Iauuching an appeal, but I feel that there has been a succesauOn of calla made on the people and that a further Cne at this time wduld not bO altogether advisable. For that reason, I have been content to leave the maiter of raising Hastings V shire of the national memorial to my general appeaf and to the Coronation Ball," he eaid. "I have no desire to overdo these appeals," said Mr Maddison, "but the ball Will alford those people desiring td subscribe to the fund the Opportunity of dCing so by putcliasing tickets for the ball and at the same time receive something in return for their donation."
