The following were .given fast work yesterday morning on the Hastings tracks, the majority of the gallops being ezeeuted. by Woodville candidates * * * Agog (C. Goldsbro) pleased by rucning seven furlongs in 1.31, appearing to hold a little in reserve. This gallop was on the inside grass. •' *> fc Padiskah (B. Stowe) was givea a working gallop over five furlongs to finish strongly. Padie (C. Cameron; took 66 secs. for five, but he, too, wa^ not fully extended. • * m Kalika (B. Stowe), who is definilelv on the improve, had slightly the better of Felicitation (C. Go]d?bro) over lialf a mile in 505. • * • Marsyas (C. Goldsbro') registered a sliade better than 66 for his five, wliilo Sir Nigel (H. Murray), having his firsi run along for somo time, pleased when registering 375 for three furlongs.
Tiger Gain (C. Shields) and Anibus (C. Goldsbro') were not showing their best in taking 66 J for five. The latter is the gelding previously alluded to as Ambusian, but he is not now making the trip to Woodville. # * # Contact (J. Forsyth) and Royal Banquet (P. Atkins), for hurdlers, did very well to run three-quarters of a mile in 1.18i and both appear to be in forward nick to commence the jumping season. • # * Big Dook (I. Eerr), a Hawke's Bay Cup candidate, pleased by sprinting six furlongs in l,16i. W. D. Turnbull has last year 's cup winnen back to Ijis very best„ form. « # - • There was little or notning to choose between Moua Lisa (H. Murray) and Eoyal Bengal (J. Forsyth) at the end of four in 52. • # # *• By running seven furlongs on the grass in 1.33 Iddo (W. Hepburn) pleased. He was aceompanied by his stable-inate Parry (B. Stowe). Both will make the Woodville trip, but Iddo Is engaged only on the second day, when he will be ridden by the stable jockey, W. Hepburn. • * # Lavina (H. Callinan) was given ua easy working . gallop, running about even time. # ® On the grass track King's Hope (P. Atkins) and the Lapidary — Lady Hill filly (C. Goldsbro') ran 37i for three. The latter goes better each time shp is sprinted. # * • Mary Rose (S. MeNaughton), on the grass, ran 40 for three, while Gasman (J. Walsh), on the same track, went extra well when elocked to do 49 for half a mile. * * • Pakanni (C. Goldsboro) was well clear of Wananga (P. Atkins) over once round in 1.39J, the same time as he registered *on Saturday morning. This gelding will be starting in the ten•furlong event on Friday at Woodville and will be expected to make a bold bid. ♦ • • Cotsfield (J. Walsh) was the only horse sehooled and in his round over the hurdles made no errors. Soho (P. Atkins), doing it well within himself and not undnly bustled, registered 1.42 for once round. He was aceompanied over the last five furlongs by the novice, Clertae (J. Forsyth). # * * Fassicker (J. Walsh) dashed over three furlongs in 37. Riding Engagements. Following are some riding engagements of local jockeys at Woodville: — P. Atkins, Blue Garter, Trailer, Mandamus, Huntette, Hunting Star; C. Goldsbro', Pakanui, Agog, Wananga; H. Young, Tycoon; A. Lord, Lord Here- | ford, Captain Furst; R. Marsh, Lucullus Lad, Parry, Blygain. The majority of H. S. Greene's horses will be ridden by B. H. Morris, while Red Rufus will be assisted by A. Jenkins. J. Forsyth will probably be on Royal Solo and G. Shields on Hunting Mars.
