Mr. R. E. Barley conducted a special Anzac service at Haumoana. The address was based on the words from Josh. 4 and 6, "Your children shall say unto you. What mean you by these stones. 11 Anzac Day was not a holiday, but a day of hallowed memories, he said, hallowqd by the heroism of those who sleep on the sea-washed shore of the peninsular at Gallipoli, The Cenotaph bore the names of the heroie dead. It was for us to see that they were not merely names written in granite but enshrined in the hearts and affections and memories of our people. "The greatest monument we can raise to our heroie dead is a constant desire for peace aud world brotherhood,11 said the speaker. "The greatest txibute we can pay our nohle dead is a greater care and thouglit for the bruised aud broken and blinded men who are ■ with us still to-day.11
