Simple Outdoor Ceremony

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. A cold wind marred the simple but effective outdoor Anzac Day service held at Waipukurau yesterday. No eombined indoor serviice , was held this year on account of the infantile paralysis cases. A short service was held at the Cenotaph instead. Between sixty aud seventy returned soldiers paraded at the Cenotaph under the president of the R.S.A., Mr A. O. Wiiliams. With the returned men was Miss A. C. Ingles, matron of Pukeora Sanatorium, who served as a nurse overseas. A firing party was provided by the High School cadets under Mr F. G. Kedgeley and led by eection leader R. Renolds. The High School girls wero representod by Misses M. Leamy, P. Tappin, B. Keir and W. Browne. The Boy Scouts were lod by Scoutmaster R. J. Holmes, and the Waipukurau Town Band was under the baton of Baudmaster E. Malkiu. Th© ceremony commenced with the playing of tlie National Anthem by the baud, followed by the hymn, "O Valiant Hearts,11 a prayer by the Rev. W. R. Huteliison, and a lesson by Capiain E. Christopher. The Benediction was prpuQunced by the Rev. Canon E. D. Rice. The service was followed by a military ceremony. The cadets slowmarched with reversed arms to either side of the Cenotaph, whero they rested on their arms while the wreaths were placed at Ihe foot of the Ceriotaph and Bandsman "W. Hall, junr., played "The Last Post. 1 1 The cadets then fired three volleys, and Bandsman Hall played the "Reveille.11 The ceremony concluded with ihe singmg of "God Save the King. 1 1
