TILDEN'S WIN AGAINST PERRY
"Big Bill" Tilden now forty-four, in their second match, scores against Fred Perry, nearly twenty years younger, in a four-set match! That a player over forty should beat a young man well under thirty, might surprise many young enthusiasts. But Tilden's success in his second match against the world champion of 1934-37 is by no means without precedent.' None the less, Tilden's success is marvellous. That he should retain his form is surprising enough; but to beat so iine a player as Perry, does establish once again Tilden's claim to be the world's greatest ever. The score was 6 — 2, 8 — 10, 6 — 2, 6 — 3. He finished with a love j*ame, as he began. Well played, Bill.
