SALES OF POPPIES

Hastings Street 'Appeal The annual street saies of poppies in aid of the Returned Soldiers' Associatfion commenced in Hastings this morning, and, from an early hour, volunteers were busily engaged in selluig these emhlems of remembrance of those who took part in the Great War. No indication of the actual amount of the saies was available when inquiries were made by the Herald-Tribune this afternoon, but the secretary, Mr V. A. Thomson , stated that the appeal was meeting with an excellent reception, and jt was hoped that the total moneys received would show a substantial increase on that of last year. AlthoUgh street saies did not commence until this morning, the house-to-house canvass commenced earlier in the week, and helpers met with a good response. When these saies are combined with to-day' s realisations, it is hoped that a satisfactory total will he obtained.
