Anzac Sacrifices
ANNIVERSARY DAY Twenty-Two Years Ago To-morrow HASTINGS SERVICE To-morrow will see commemoration of th6 suffering and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealanders on the grim shores of Gallipoli 22 years ago, a day that marked the bleeding of young nations and evolved a new nauie to be added to the honoured list in British history. The men are not to be mourned. They are always ih our memory. "They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow; They were staunch to the end against odds nncounted. They fell with their faces to the foe". — ^Lawrence Binyon. The people of Hastings and district ar© reminded that the commemoration service will take place in the Munieipal Theatre to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The principal speaker will be Colonel C. H. Weston, K.C., D.S.O., of Wellington, lleturned soldiers are asked to parade at the bandroom at 2.30 p.m. wearing their medals and decorations. From there they will march to the service at the theatre. In the past the service has^been held in the morning, and this year the alteration to the afternoojo, time has heeu made v so that, the ordinary_ Sunday church services will not be interfered with. Other than that, the ceremony will be the same as in other years. At the conclusion of the service in the theatre, wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph in Russell street, and the various organisations jvill march to the Oenetaph for this purpose» A complimentary afternoon tea will be tendered by the Hastings Borough Council late in the afternoon.
