PAVILION FOR BOWLERS
Pori Ahuriri Club's Proposal At a latge and enthusiastic meqting of the * Port Ahuriri Bowling Club it Was Unanioiously deeided to proceed immediately with the etection of a mbdem and attractive two-storied pavilion on the site of tlie preseht Croquet Club btiilding in Battery road, Port Ahuriri^ Most of the work will be done by the club members, and a considerable sum towards 'tho cost was donated by those present at the meeting, and many offers of assistance by way of volunthry labdur and donations of xnaterials Were forthcoming, Several speakers rererred to the faet that the policy of the founders of the club had always been to develop the grounds first and then erect a pavilion worthy of the grounds when the club could afford the cost. It had proved a long and expensive under taking to bring -the playing areas and surroundings to their present very high stan-. dard and the erection of the new pavilion would, therefore, mark the successful comoletion of the poliey of the founders and early members of the club of whom Mr. J. P. Smith had been the leader for many years. Members felt that a great deal • of the credit for the present success of the club was due to Mr Smith 's energy, enthusiasm and det.ermination, and they deeided to perpetually couple his name with that of' the club by n'aming the building the "J. P. Stoith Pavilion," and instal a suitably worded tablet referring to his work and that of the , early members.
