Wairoa Plans for Celebrations Well in Hand

WAIROA, Last Night. The Wairoa Carnival Coronation Committee met at the Borough Couneil Chambers this evening. Present: Messrs S. Ashburn (chair), J. Duley, D. Byford, K. Smith, Calder, Dryden, J. Cook, G. Powell and J. Gallagher (representing the Wairoa Municipal Band) and Mr J. Marslin, seeretary. The decorations committee wals authorised to spend a further sum on decorating material. Because the Anglican Church ball is being held on Coronation night, it was deeided to hold 'a carnival Coronation ball the following Friday night in Osler 's hall, proyiding that the hall has not been already booked for some other function.

The niain decorations will he on the bridge and also on'the Couneil CIiani: bers, where the ofiicial ceremouy will be held. The couneil advised the committee that they will assist with tlie erection of the poles to carry bunting. Mr Gallagher said that the band was wiiling to assijst the c.ommitteo in. any way possible to make the various f unctions a success. Mr A. T. Carroll arranged for a member of tho Maori race to speak at the ofiicial function,, and aleo for a party of Maoris to perform a haka. Mr E. E, S. Boyes, headmaster of the Wairoa Distri'et High School, who is getting in toueh with the country schools to find out how many children will be at tbe free luncheon, suggested that they be. marched to the shcool for the luncheon ' from Coronation Square, headed by the Municipal Band. This was approved by the committee. Mr Lfoyes advised • that; t|ie Teaching staff is wiiling to undertako tlie eupervision of. tho luncheon to the children. The fireworks display is to be made fr.om stands erected on the river.-bank at North Clyde near the Methodist Church. The display will lake about threo hours to eompiete, and during the display the band will give a concert on the Marine Parade. The Wairoa Rugby Sub-Union has arrangements in hand for a football ontortainment, and an endeavour is beiug inade to play , a ' representative match. . i'i ii 1
