Celebrates 87th Birthday
An early resident of Whangarei, Mrs Amy Wilhelmina Bentick Andertou, colebrated her 87th birthday lust Thursday. Born'on the voyage of the Gertuan sailing ship Lord "VYiliielm Bentick, Mrs Andertou epent more' than 30 years of her early life in the Auckland distriet, residing at the Bay of Islands, Thames and Bombay. She" was educated at Lewis College, Auckland. Her fatner, che late Mr William Head, took part :n the Maori War in 1850. After the war,. the family returned- to England, wliere Mr Head was discharge.d from aervice after 22 years with the Eoyal Engineers, being presented with the Good Conduct Medal at Aldfersliot by ihe late Quee Victoria. He also won. *he V.C. On returning to New Zealand- with her people, Mrs Anderton, at the age of 18, married Captain Frank Robineon oi the Charlotte Ann, nephew of Squire Feek, of Hazelwood, London, founder of a well-known biscuit company. Captain Robinson was drowned off the Whangarei Heads three years after his marriage, leaving a widow and one child. Later Mrs Robinson married Mr Charles Anderton, of Preston, England, a cousin of the statesman Sir Itobert feel. At the time of his death Mr Anderton was a farmer in the Waipawa distriet, Hawke's Bay. Mrs Anderton lias four daughters ar.d four sons living. They are: Mrs Loruvzen (Whangarei), Mrs Mason (Otane), Mrs McNeill (Hunterville), Mrs K. M. Connor (Waipawa), Messr« A. and D. Anderton * (Otane), Messra G. Rfd A. Anderton (Taihape).
