HASTINGS BOXING
Fortnightly Professional Bouts Proposed The staging of professional boxing tournaments in Hastings every. fortnight is -the aim of the Hawke's Bay night is the aim of the Hawke's Bay Boxing Association. Arrangements towards this end have been set in train and it was decided la3t evening to fmalise the .programme for the iirst tournament of the series. The matter was fully discussed at a meeting of the executive last evening, when members had bef ore . them a complete list of all the registered professional boxers in New Zealand. All of them are to be written to offering them at least one contest this season on a percentage basis. It was' decided to stage two 10-round three-minute fi'ghts for the first programme, -the principals being H. Dunn (Wellington) v. B. Downes (Wanganui) and R. Aitken (Wellington) v. 'B. Conghlan (Palmerston North). No deiinite date has yet been fixed, but it is expected to be early next month. Mr. B. de Lisle presided over the meeting, others present being Messrs. E. J. Wall, G. Warren, J. D. Donovan, H. E. Connop, P, Shadbolt, P. H. Colello, L. J. B. Hammond, J. Dexter and J. Stickland (honorary secretary). The mateh committee reported that it was unable to secure the McMahonMartin fight owing to the former being engaged by the Hamilton Association at about the same date as suggested for Hastings. Acceptance of office, together with a donation, was received from Mr. J. Maddison, E. M. Campbell, ancl W. J. Baillie (vice-presidents).
