POPPY DAY APPEAL

Good Response So Far STREET SALES ON SATURDAY Collectors report quite eatisfactory response to the annual Poppy Day appeal by" the Hastings Returned Soldiers' Associaiion. During the past week a house-to-house canvas has been made and. the saies of poppies has been good. The big day of the appeal is Saturday next when there will be sellers in Heretaunga street, and it is hoped that everybody will be wearing a poppy. As the whole of the money raised from these emblems is devoted to tho welfare of returned soldiers who are in need, it is earnestly hoped that there will be accorded full support to the appeal. This year, being the 21st. annxversary of tbe association, a special effort is being made and the Hastings Association has purchased "an additional 1000 poppies. It will be recalled that iast year over £200 was raised in Hastings aione, this effort comparing very favourably with that of other towns. On that occasion, however, every poppy was disposed of by late afternooli and the demand was not met. It was because of this position that the association decided this year to increase its quota, and members are confident that the people of Hastings and tho surrounding districts will continue to support- the association in its worfchy work to the same,' if not greater degree,' as in the past.
