Friendly Societies' Tourney

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Six rinks . of bowlers representing Loyal Tavistock (M.U.I.O.O-F.), Waipukurau (N.Z.I.O.O.F.), and Court Ruahine (A.O.F.), lodges took part in the first night 's play in the Friendly Society 's indoor bowling competition, which will be continued' during the winter months. Three "greens" were in use during the evening and a very pleasant time was spent by all present. A very friendly spirit prevailed during the play, much good-natured barracking being in evidence. The games were of seven heads each, and each rink played three games. On the evening 's play the Foresters' two rinks emerged Avith six wins and no losscw, the Manchester Unity Oddfellows, three wins -and three losses, and the New Zealand Independent Order of Oddfellows, no wins and six losses. Points (two for a win and oue for a draw) were allotted as follows: — Court Uua,hine, 12; Loyal Tavistock Lodge, 6; Waipukurau Lodge, nil. The Waipukurau Lodge (N.Z.I.O.O.F.) are new-comers in the competition, which in previous years was helu between the Foresters and Manchester Unity Oddfellows for a eup„ at present lield by the Foresters. and which is still to be competed for by tliese two lodges in conjunetion 'with the triangular tournament.
