CHILDREN TO TAKE LARGE PART IN CELEBRATIONS

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Subject to the present restrictions heing lifted by then, children are to take a full share in the Coronation celehrations in Ceneral Hawke's Bay. The following were present at a meeting of the Ooronation Celebrations Commtttee held in Waipukurau last night: — Messrs I. W. N. Mackie (chairman), V. Parsons, headmaster, H. B. Roach, F. Sayliss, 0. W. Browne, G. J. Bromell, L. Hawke, and the town clerkengineer, Mr H. B. Sxnart. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided that (subject to the restrictions being lifted) an effort should be made to provide a children's picture entertainment on the afternoon of Ooronation Day, and that the school children from Hatuma, Flemington, Wanstead and Wallingford be invited to attend. The organising of the entertainment and the ar'ranging of euitable was left in the hands of MessrS Parsons and Sayliss. Mr G. J. Bromell was deputed to interview the Waipukurau Women 's Institute regarding the filli'ng of bags of sweets for distribution to the children and the ximning of an ice-cream and soft drinks stall in the event of hot weather. The building of a stage outsido the Post Office from which to read the Proclamation was left in the hands of Mr Browne and the engineor, Mr Smart. In the event of wet weather all functions will be held in the Municipal Theatre, Mr A. R. Williams was appointed to marshal the parade at the Post Offlce. Mr Parsona advised that the teachers were prepared to provide one and a-half hours of sports for the children in Russell' Park. • Each child is to be presented with- a badge and a- bag of sweets^ and those up to Standard 2 with a flag as well. Mr Browne suggested that the Maoris from Porangahau ehould be invited to attend the celebrations, and that one Maori should be asked to read the Procl'amation and another to interpret it, with exhibitiorui of poi dancing and hakas given af terwards in Russ^ Park, After a telephone conversation with Mr W. P. Karu, Porangahau, Mr Browne reported that Mr Kuru favoured the idea and that i£ they were invited they would come in.
