THere is au acute shortage of suitable timb'er for box-makirig in New Soufh Wales and laotory representatives deelared tlxat the New Zealand Government, in pro--'hibiting export after the coixtx'aets were signed, had committed an illegal act. Negotiations are now in progress • with timber merchants in Borxieo, who state that they are able to supply suit-. able timber. Tests are also being made with woods froin varxous other countriea.
