The Oommissioner for Special Areas has promised further substantial grants to local authorities in special areas towards schemes undertaken by them on the grounds of public health. « The Oommissioner 's total commitinents at the end of March were £10,712,000, including grants to assist mdustry of £3,058,000; for land settlement ,etc,, £3,182,000; for schemes necessary on the grounds of public health, £3,28-6,000; other grants, £1 ,1861)00.
