LENGTHY SERVICE
58 Years at Tomoana Works MR TIMMS RETIRES A notable record ■ of continuous service fias recently been completed by Mr T. W. Timms, senr., who bas retired from the engineering staff- of the Tomoana Freezing Works wliere he has been employed for close on 58 years. Mr Timms' s association with the late Mr W. Nelson hegan in 1876 when h© entered the empioy of Messrs Nelson, Dale and Co., of Warwick, England, and three years later be was brought out to Hawke's Bay by Mr Nelson when that gentleman decided to start the boiling-down works at Tomoana, whicfi was the forerunner of the present freezing works. This business started operations in 1880, while in 188'3, due to the advance in the freezing and cold storage of meats, the works wer© added to and the fiilling and freezing of mutton for export wero started. From thes© early beginnings until the present day Mr Timms has played his part faithfully and well in helping to keep tiie necessary plant and machinery in good repair and now Jeaves with th« best wishes of all his friends that he may enjoy many years of health and happiness. Lasjb week at a representative gathering of his fellow workers, he was the recipient of several useful and valuable presents as tokens of their good wishes, while tho firm has also made • provision for his future. Mr Timms is now in his 81st. year and still enjoy s very gocd health and the possession of all his faculties
