"below low water and fqr its full greatest depth width of 100 feet. The material encountered in this eut was particularly easy and the dredger had no difficulty in putting up a really good performanee, which wasj uufortunately, to some extent off set by the intervening Easter holiday period. However, the Hapai 's returns amounted to 24,285 tons, bringing the dredger 's total output, since commencing work at Napier, tb 84,367 tous. "Breakwater Extension: The contractor for the extension of the breakwater built sections Nos. 9 and 10 thereof, thereby adding about auother 25 feet thereto and bringing the total length of the extension to 123 i'eet. He also made 86 larger-sized concrete blocks in the yard and deposited 39 core blocks ou the site of the works. "Excavation: Good progress was made with the excavation by motor lorries and crane and tub for the final location of the main railway lines between the Breakwater and the E shed. A eonsiderable quantity of rubble and concrete was met with in the' excavation, resort having on occasion to be had to blasting. The work was earried out for the most part by the Whakarire's crews while the dredger itself Was in Wellington for annual overhaul."
